Guardian Optical Technologies from Tel-Aviv, Israel announced the completion of a funding round. It raised $3.1M need to continue the development of its in-car computer vision sensor. The company’s technology is based on a camera placed inside a car. The camera can detect tiny motion (micrometer range). This camera, coupled with computer vision and machine learning capabilities, will improve passenger safety. Guardian’s sensor records high-resolution videos and generates three-dimensional depth maps simultaneously. It can detect the presence of young children in the backseats of cars, allowing it to adjust the deployment force of an airbag. The company expects the system to render other existing systems in the car to become redundant. Therefore, they believe the overall manufacturing costs will go down with their technology.
