Amazon launched a new app for iPhone that leverages computer vision technology to identify and replace screws and other small parts. Today, if you need to replace a screw, nut or bolt, you have to take a trip to the hardware store. Amazon is looking to change that. With this new app, you can now use your phone’s camera to identify hundreds of types of nuts, screws, washers, bolts, etc.. Once identified, a part can be ordered from Amazon directly through the app. Part Finder is another step in Amazon fight against the brick-and-mortar world order. If you’d like to use this feature, open the Amazon app and then select the camera. Next, you will see a screw icon indicating the Part Finder feature. You’re going to need to place the part in question next to a penny (for scale). The app will analyze the image to identify the part. You will then be given options to refine your selection such as head or driver type.
