Already today many cities monitor their streets via cameras placed throughout the city. Many cities are increasingly relying on computer vision and machine learning to analyze the video and determine public safety issues. A similar approach is now being brought into retail stores by NTT East and a startup called Earth Eyes. The two companies have built an AI system that tracks shoppers in the store and determines whether a suspicious activity is taking place. If the system believes shoplifting is occurring, it alerts security and provides them with a video clip of the incident in question. It is then up to security to decide how to respond.
